Personal style isn't something you're born with, it's something you develop over time. And just like any personal journey, finding your style is less about rules and more about curiosity, exploration, and self-awareness.
Here’s a simple, step-by-step process to help you define your personal style and start dressing with clarity and ease.
Start with Pinterest, Instagram, or your own saved photos. Create a style mood board filled with outfits, colours, and silhouettes that catch your eye. Look for celebrity looks, editorials, or even family photos that give you that instant “yes!” feeling. Don’t chase trends. Focus on what you genuinely love.
Ask yourself: What would I wear if no one was watching? What styles make me feel like myself?
Pull out the pieces you reach for most often. Notice any consistencies—do they share a certain colour palette, fabric, or fit? Separate your clothes into a YES pile (what works and feels good) and a WHY? pile (what doesn’t). This step helps you see what already aligns with your personal style and what might be holding you back.
Compare your mood board with your favourite wardrobe pieces. Are you drawn to timeless classics, relaxed silhouettes, bold colours, or feminine details? These patterns reveal your core style personality—the foundation of your signature look. If you need help, my Personal Style Foundations package is a great place to start!
Pick 3–5 words that describe how you want to feel in your clothes, for example 'confident', 'minimalistic', 'creative', or 'luxury'. These become your guideposts. If an outfit doesn’t fit those words, it’s not your style. This approach keeps your wardrobe consistent, intentional, and aligned with your identity.
You don’t need a full closet overhaul. Begin with small changes, like a new pair of earrings, a jacket that fits your vibe, or a colour that makes you feel alive. Use what you have, and be thoughtful with new purchases. Personal style is built slowly, with intention.
Stylist Tip: Take quick outfit photos each day and note which looks make you feel most confident. Over time, you’ll start to see your true style take shape.
